3rd Haiti Funders Conference A Success
We want to thank everyone who was able to take part in the 3rd Haiti Funders Conference: Achieving Sustainability in Haiti, held November 10-11, 2016 at the SUNY Global Center in New York City. We were astounded by the number of individuals and organizations who attended, especially following a particularly divided election night. The enthusiasm and passion in the room was infectious. It was the participation, curiosity, and deep knowledge of those in the room that made the event such a success.
We began this conference series to bridge the existing gaps between funders and to increase opportunities for learning from implementers. By breaking down the self-imposed and structural silos that divide our work, we can increase both our individual and collective impact. It was our hope that through this conference we could engage in meaningful dialogues about the development challenges within Haiti and how to address these challenges collectively.
Our Keynote speaker, Ambassador Paul Altidor, suggested that a new narrative is needed for Haiti. Over the two days, we saw a glimpse of that new narrative through the inspiring work of our speakers and participants. These conversations provided deeper insights into possibilities to achieve sustainability in Haiti. It was clear that for donors and implementers to achieve inclusive and sustainable development in Haiti, they need to become more strategic by learning from one another and listening deeply to those on the ground.
